I don’t think there’s any way it could have failed. We don’t know failure in this band. We didn’t know failure. We got to know it a little after awhile, but at that time there was no such word.

Head shops, black lights, psychedelic posters and The Who. Along with the Beatles, The Who was revolutionary, exciting, and like nothing we had heard before. The controversial band consisted of four rockers from Great Britain who blasted their way onto the American music charts and into the hearts of boomers all over the world.

Dark and Edgy
Unlike the Beatles, The Who started off being classified as part of the ‘Mod’ movement, but quickly graduated to a dark and edgy force that was to be the beginning of a hard punk style of music. At the end of their live performances, they would smash their instruments, which left their audiences screaming for more.

They were dangerous and unpredictable, and sang songs like ‘Teenage Wasteland’ and ‘My Generation’ where they declared “I hope I die before I get old.” This unfortuanatly became drummer Keith Moon’s legacy who died suddenly at 32. It was devastating for the band and fans alike.

Brilliant and Successful

The Who eventually delved into a more creative style of rock, which eventually led them to such works “I Can See for Miles” and the revolutionary rock operas “Tommy” and “Quadrophenia.” They are brilliant and extremely successful.

The Who are recognized as one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time. To date they have sold over 100 million records worldwide and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.

Mini-Tour

In June 2008, The Who announced a mini-tour of the United States, Japan, and Australia. Starting in Oct/Nov of 2008 and concluding in the spring of 2009. Townsend and Daltrey recently confirmed that they are working on material for a new album. For more information on concert schedules and updates visit
