Val Kilmer's Passion
Shelli Carlisle
"I chose to support the Wildlife Center because Dr. Ramsay is doing the impossible there. She is handling wild animals, in order to save their lives, with delicate surgery and resisting the almost irresistible urge to over handle them, damaging their chances of returning to the wild. She works tirelessly and without fan fare."

Dr. Kathleen Ramsay
The Wildlife Center was founded in 1986 by Dr. Kathleen Ramsay. Located in north Santa Fe County just south of Española. The Wildlife Center is New Mexico's only wildlife hospital. Their mission is to promote responsible coexistence between human and wildlife populations and help preserve the greatest possible diversity of life.
Last year alone, 1300 animals arrived at The Wildlife Center to receive the best possible care. Many were kept for months before they c
ould be returned to the wild. Under Dr. Ramsey's guidance, eight staff and more than 100 volunteers, enable The Wildlife Center to assist in the rehabilitation of wildlife and provide training in public education.
Dr. Ramsey and her staff have treated creatures such as great horned owls, bald eagles, baby mice, bobcats, toads, even humming birds. Reptiles, mammals, birds and raptors have all been welcomed there. The Wildlife Center is the hospital, ICU, rehab unit and "return-them-to-their-natural-homes" program for all of them.
New Mexico's Only Rehabilitation Center
The Wildlife Center is the only rehabilitation center in New Mexico permitted by the federal government and state of New Mexico to rehabilitate large mammals, such as the New Mexico black bear, endangered species, and our national bird the bald eagle.
Primary Funding
Primary funding comes to The Center from indi
vidual donors and private foundations. The center receives no regular funding from the state of federal government.
Kilmer has an extraordinary relationship with The Wildlife Center. Over 100 animals have been treated, rehabilitiated and released on Kilmer's Pecos River Ranch, located near Santa Fe, New Mexico.
"Kilmer's passion for wildlife and animal conservation has provided New Mexico's wildlife another chance for freedom."
