Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney
Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr played a date Saturday night, April 4th, 2009. Yes, you read that correctly. They performed at Radio City Music Hall in New York for the David Lynch Foundation.
Starr went onstage first and played a couple of tunes–Yellow Submarine, Boys, and It Don’t Come Easy. There were other singers, such as Sheryl Crow who sang My Sweet Lord by George Harrison.
About three hours into the speeches, comedy routines (Denis Leary), and performances, McCartney finally got on stage. Now, McCartney was the headliner–so, apparently Lynch didn’t want to rush things. Perhaps he thought he would raise more money–by people trying to buy their way out of there.
McCartney played 12 songs and then introduced Starr as Billy Shears–Starr’s pseudoname in the late 60s. Starr and McCartney sang With a Little Help from My Friends and then Starr played the drums with McCartney’s band for the last few songs.
They had not played together since performing together at a concert honoring Harrison in 2002. Let’s hope this isn’t the last we see of the two of them.
BTW: Yoko Ono was also at the fund raiser.
Here’s a video of Starr and McCartney on Larry King Live, Ono and Harrison’s widow joined them later on another video edition of the Larry King Live show, which aired today.
