JAEDA – Shades of the Soul
Purpose + Passion = Bliss
Dawn Bonner
This new book, just published in December 2008, a gorgeously rich book is a simple book; simple in that you can pick it up and read one page, which is a poem, get lost in the exquisite artography and sit back and meditate on the words Jaeda DeWalt shares with you. It matters not where you start in J A E D A shades of the soul or where you end, there are words of thought provoking emotions and situations everyone has faced at one time or another.
About the Author
DeWalt’s first book Haunting Hands artography and poetry book was published in 1997, and she is a contributing photographer to Erotic Women in October 2005 and Women by Women. Her images from Haunting Hands were featured in New York at Southampton Cultural Center in honor of Women’s History Month, as well as Cat’s Impetuous Books & Stuff in Kent, Ohio for Women’s History Month, too.
She lives in Washington state and says, “I love living in Seattle, it is the perfect city for me. I love the melancholy lullaby of the rain and the overcast skies.”
Perhaps fitting, since DeWalt is a victim of incest and abuse, plus she suffers, as she puts it, from the demons of mental illness–bipolar disorder and post traumatic stress. No longer willing to be a perpetual ‘victim’ (children who are abused don’t learn how to protect themselves) DeWalt did a lot of work to reframe life. One of the things of great aid to her was photography, which allowed her an escape. The photography and the poems are all created by her.
DeWalt is also a poet and in our next issue, the Romance issue, we will be featuring her poems. And, we have a special treat to look forward to, you will be able to hear her voice reading her poetry.
I am going to let the book speak for itself. Well, some of it anyway.
