Hancock
A Different Superhero
Cozette Cravens
I enjoyed several of Will Smith’s movies. This one, however gives a new meaning to superhero. He flies through the air, similar to Superman, but does more damage.
Hancock (Will Smith) plays a depressed superhero that has a drinking problem and looks like a transient. Hancock saves the life of public relations man, Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman). Hancock is not liked by most of the public, so Ray wants to change Hancock’s image. Ray wants Hancock to wear a black tight fitting suit and start to be friendly towards others. This is hard for Hancock. Ray’s wife Mary (Charlize Theron) is apprehensive with the undertaking of Hancock’s new PR.
Lost in Life
Tom Cravens
Hancock (Will Smith) has super powers, but does not know what to do with his life. He feels unwanted and although he tries to help, he is often put down for making a situation worse because of what he did to help. When he saves Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman) from a train collision, Ray decides to change Hancocks image.
He takes Hancock home, introduces him to the family, and sets out to make Hancock more appealing to the public. Rays wife Mary (Charlize Theron) does not like Hancock and when he puts a move on her, she pulls out all the stops, even threatening his life if he comes between her and the family she loves.
Life as a superhero is not easy and flying into birds, or crashing through freeway signs just seems to be natural. Here you see a whole new set of fantastic digital events and animals in realistic scenarios as Hancock tries to find himself and a purpose for his life. For anyone who wants to see what a superhero life would be like in today’s world.
