Tiger Woods, a Master on the golf course, a hero to many, and the center of a tabloid scandal. God bless Tiger and his family for healing.  Photographer Keith Allison

Tiger Woods, Powerful Men and the Women Who Chase Them  Where's the Empathy? Where's the Accountability of the Women?
Dawn Bonner

Imagine you are tired of hearing of Tiger Woods indiscretions.  Did you really need to know all of the details of the police reports?  Did he really owe us an apology?

He certainly did not need to apologize to me--what ever happened is between him and his wife.  It makes one wonder why people think he would need to apologize to the public? And, why is his personal life any of our business?

On the other hand, this could be the catalyst for Wood's to truly understand the pain he caused his family and become a good husband and father.  If his wife decides to keep him.

The Women's Interview Questions

It also escapes me why the women, the one's who say he allegedly had affairs with them, are talking to the press.  And, those who are talking to the press are not being asked these questions (a first choice would be they aren't given interviews):

1.  Why did you disrespect his marriage?
2.  Why are you not embarrassed to tell the world you are an adulterer?
3.  Would you be okay with your boyfriend or husband cheating on you?
4.  Why do you feel compelled to share intimate details with the public?
5.  Are you being paid for this interview?  If so, how much is the going rate for tabloid gossip to be touted as news these days?

President George W. Bush gets golf tips from Arnold
Palmer before he received the Presidential Medal of
Freedom on June 23, 2004.

There would be more questions on this level and even though we don't have journalists of this caliber anymore--who would ask these questions, you get the idea of what a thorough interview would be.

Now, having never personally met Woods, it would be insane for me to surmise what he is like.  If he is a player, a chaser.

Arnold Palmer

The PGA Tournament Championship Headquarters was literally in my backyard in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.  Each year, my time was donated to volunteer during the PGA golf tournament.  This time allowed me to meet many of the golfers and their wives.

Arnold Palmer had one of the biggest galleries and many of the people in it were women.  Women of all ages, they were called Arnie's Army.  Palmer is charming, handsome, talented, and humble with a great sense of humor and an incredible memory.

When people would approach him--he would say, "I saw you in my gallery today, thank you for walking with me.  It means a lot to me."  He took the time to speak with each person when they came up to him, as well as giving them his autograph if asked for it.  His interest in people seemed genuine.

What was shocking was how bold women were in trying to seduce him.  The more demure women would shake his hand and while doing so, would press their hotel key into his hand.  Others were much more 'out there' in the chase and it didn't matter to them he had a wife and children.

The advances on him were constant; a barrage of women, one after the other, who let him know they were available for whatever he desired. Personally having never seen Palmer accept the advances--it would be difficult to say he was a chaser, even though he had a reputation for it.  He didn't have to chase the women, they offered themselves up freely.  It became easy to understand how these men were placed into positions of huge temptation.

Dallas Cowboys Football Players

Troy Aikman, former
quarter back for the
Dallas Cowboys and
currently, Broadcaster
at Fox.

Spending time with any of the Dallas Cowboy football players is difficult in public.  Women, literally, squeeze between the football player and his date; it is as if the seducer is completely oblivious to her.  They look like kittens, rubbing up and down on the male athlete.  While some of the football players do play behind their wives back--and actively go out and chase women.  Some do not.

If you were at a night club and Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin or any of the other guys showed up, you would see women running to them. You may not know where they are in the club, yet if you look for the crowd of women, they would usually be in the middle of them. Are these fawning women thinking this may be their night to get a piece of one of these icons.

What goes through their heads...do they think their celebrity will rub off on them?  Do they believe the man will fall in love with them?  Or, does the woman believe she will feel validated if an athlete takes her up on her offer for one night?

It didn't matter where these men go; it happens everywhere, from the grocery store, post office, work, their favorite charities.  Aikman started several charities.  They got so big, he opened an office and hired people to work run it for him.  It wasn't long before he learned to keep the name of his charity hush-hush because when it was well known he couldn't find good employees.  Many of the women were there to chase him.

This same phenomenon has been witnessed with politicians, authors, speakers, musicians--men of affluence; any men who have power and/or wealth.

Back to Tiger

Bringing this back to Woods and his predicament.  It is hurtful to we, as a society, to take joy in his foibles.  To demand he be accountable to us, codependent and out of line.  How would you behave if you had women throwing themselves on you everyday, every where you went?  Would you be strong enough to resist?

Not that Wood's behavior is to be condoned, it just plain and simply, is none of our business.  And, why are his family issues more important to the media and to us, than say, corrupt politicians?  Or, what is being discussed this very week-end about how the money in your pocket is going to be spent on one of the largest wealth re distributions in history?  Why aren't we demanding to have what is insanely being called the 'health care reform' dissected and demand answers about why are you doing this as loudly or louder than it is being asked of Woods and what happened the evening he crashed his car?

Footnote:  Men, take a lesson out of Paul Newman's playbook.  When he was away from home on filming, he would go straight to his hotel room and lock himself in for the night.  Even ordering dinner in.  He said he locked himself in his room at night because he was no saint, it was to keep himself from temptation, so he could stay true to his wife.

Comments from Our Readers

"He is now human.  People like this story because Tiger was always so private.  Someone found what they thought was a weak link, simple as that he is not super human!  Just tabloid blah blah blah!!!!!  He is more Greek like all the old Greek Gods cheated and stole that is what made them immoral."

Don't know what about this is news worthy.  Seems like the news becomes more and more like the National Enquirer everyday and the National Enquirer breaks some great news stories...that the journalists can't seem to figure out lately.

Why are those women talking anyway?  I still haven't figured that one out. I never looked at it that way and gave me food for thought, if men were throwing themselves at me all the time, my fidelity record may not be so smooth.
