Colon Hydrotherapy for Health and Well Being
The oral hygienist works at the point of entry to the alimentary canal, making sure the teeth are able to chew properly, that the gums are healthy and that they can successfully begin the process of digestion, assimilation, absorption and elimination.
When the body begins this process, most of us don’t think about the food we’ve eaten. Will it be properly assimilated? Are there toxins to be thrown off? Will this food truly benefit energetically from the food choices, or am I just satisfying a nagging appetite? Does the body eliminate the by-products of the foods eaten? What are these by-products (chemical, preservatives, food additives, dyes, antibiotics, drugs)? Does the body pass dead blood cells, tissue and old lymphatic juices sufficiently?
Colon Hydrotherapy Has Three Primary Goals
Colon Hydrotherapy is a great aid to the elimination process. There are three primary goals (and many secondary benefits) when irrigating, or cleansing a colon, or large intestine.
One is to encourage the client to breathe. This opens and relaxes the alimentary canal. This infuses the body with oxygen, increases circulation, invigorates the mind as well as the body, and prepares the body for release.
The Third purpose, which I consider the most energizing, is hydration. We need to hydrate the fecal matter and prepare it for elimination (this may or may not take place on the table). We also need to hydrate the system. A hydrated colon can pass fluids into the system through the colon wall.
Drinking Water
Also, we all know we should drink eight to 10 eight-ounce glasses of water daily. Do we? And, does the water we drink give full benefit to the colon? Most times, we have to urinate more frequently when we drink more water, hydrating and cleansing the kidneys. This is good. It’s great, but does it cleanse and support the colon? How can we be sure of proper hydration, especially in the colon where the body still seeks fluids and nutrients? If we have a sluggish, tense, ailing, sensitive, or dry colon we can’t pass healthy fluids through the colon wall. Colon hydrotherapy supports, energizes and hydrates other vital organs, the blood plasma and lymphatic fluids.
Our bodies are 60 to 70 percent water, and to function well, it must not become dehydrated. How do we become dehydrated, you might ask?
What Interferes with Hydration?
The American diet of high fat and low fiber, over-processed, over-cooked, denatured and devitalized foods will slow down our systems. Too little good quality water and to much caffeine in cola, coffee, tea, chocolate beer and wine dehydrate the body.
Mental stress and our own negative attitudes about bowel evacuation will dehydrate the body; and ignoring the call to evacuate will back up the system.
Emotional stress from work, or home life may cause a tightening in the solar plexus nerve centers, inhibiting proper breathing and the flow of energy into the colon.
Physical defects, genetic and acquired, can inhibit peristaltic activity. Medications of many varieties can also cause constipation.
Over the Counter Laxatives
In our society, most people solve these problems with an over-the-counter laxative, not realizing that laxatives are designed to stimulate the muscular walls of the colon to abnormally contract, causing the irritant to be expelled. The use of such products creates dehydration in the body, which can encourage layers of old, dried feces to remain packed in the colon, while only the most recent feces are pushed through the center of the colon and evacuated through the irrigation of the laxative. With colon hydration, the gentle process of cleansing and regeneration of the colon can begin.
According to Dr. Mark Baker, D.C., “Colonics give you a feeling of being lighter, cleaner and healthier with a sense of well-being. Cleansing and building programs offer preventative measures so that you can be in control of your own health. Dietary and exercise changes are usually necessary to ensure long-lasting and vital health.”
